Role Overview  

 

The Product Owner role is within the Change & Transformation team, working as part of an Agile Scrum team responsible for communicating the product vision and definition of the roadmaps of Mercer strategic applications and management of product backlogs to enable delivery of customer and user needs. 

 

In this role, you will be part of the team of Product Owners who are responsible for a system that is deployed in approx. 30 countries globally from Pacific to Latin America. Primary customer is the internal operations department, but there are also requirements coming from other dependent stakeholders, internal as well as external systems including analytics and client facing portal. 

 

 

What can you expect? 

 

Acting as the primary point of contact between development teams and business stakeholders. Working in collaboration with an Agile Squad comprised of a Squad Lead, Developers and Quality Assurance Engineers, you will be expected to participate in Daily Standups and other scrum ceremoniesto maintain the Product Backlog, define iterations, groom backlog. User Story refinement and Sprint Reviews with support from the Systems Analyst and Squad lead. You will be expected to manage communication with countries you are responsible for, help them articulate their demands, resolve functional and training issues and prioritize their backlog.

  • Be a highly motivated team player working in an agile culture, within a specified Agile Frame work of Scrum, and maintain a willingness for continuously improving your agile mind-set. 

  • Understand the customer needs, insight and business strategy to define and prioritize the product vision and roadmap 

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders & development squads to define the goal and scope of product iterations. 

  • Work with the Systems Analyst (SA) to maximize the value of the development squad's work by creating a shared understanding of the product vision/goal. 

  • Own new features, understand their business value, work with the SA to capture functional and performance requirements and provide visibility into the value within the product. 

  • Be responsible for stakeholder management across multiple disciplines in the organisation from a product roadmap perspective. 

  • Act as the primary reference point around the product for the development squads by providing the necessary clarity when (e.g. product documentation, UI/UX behaviour, etc). 

  • Work in a partnership with the Systems Analyst to maintain the Product Backlog ensuring that Epics and User Stories are continuously prioritized and aligned to the Product Roadmap, MVP and budget. 

  • Ensure that business requirements contain all necessary items to be handed over to the development teams (opportunity canvas, business scenarios, user stories, acceptance criteria…) 

  • Lead or participate in regular showcase of feature enhancements to business stakeholders with support from the squad. 

  • Support the business by helping them build strong relationships with new and existing clients through enhancement of their product knowledge. 

  • Verify the product deliverable meets the Acceptance Criteria and receive sign-off from the business stakeholders that work is accepted.

  • Highly motivated individual who is intellectually curious and a rapid learner that must be able to work in a 100% remote or hybrid office setting.   

  • Ability to work in a highly complex environment with significant number of interdependencies and conflicting priorities. 

  • A positive attitude and willingness to create simple, elegant solutions and the ability and desire to develop close relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Ability to take responsibility for and make decisions regarding own work methods requiring minimal direction. 

  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment and develop good working relationships with colleagues regardless of boundaries. 

  • Ability to adapt your communication style depending on the audience, objectives and channels being used. 

  • Demonstrable quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 

  • Be an effective communicator for both technical and business-oriented audiences. 

  • Serve as product ambassador internally and externally, sharing knowledge and answering questions. 

  • Be fluent in Spanish. 

  • Excellent Microsoft Office products knowledge, including Visio and Excel. 

  • Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps or similar task management tools. 

 

 

What makes you stand out? 

 

  • 5+ years experience as a Product Owner or Product Analyst working as part of an agile team. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability and desire to develop close relationships with clients / internal teams and articulate product vision. 

  • In-depth understanding of Agile Principles and a Working knowledge of Agile Framework. Experience with Scrum methodology 

  • Experience of working within the Insurance Industry. 

  • Experience with working in a highly complex global environment. 

  • Understanding of principles of the change management and system adoption. 

  • Working with key stakeholders to drive business result. 

  • Strong planning and organisational skills. 

  • Evidence based decision-making skills. 

  • Be willing to embrace change from either internal or external influences.
