Murphy Water is the Water & Wastewater process engineering division which delivers municipal water treatment solutions for Water Authorities in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom.
The Project
Based in Cookstown Court Office, Dublin. The successful candidate will work on Murphy Water projects in the Midlands, Leinster with potential opportunities that may arise in the U.K.
The Role
Murphy Water are hiring an mechanical engineer to work on the commissioning and maintenance of Water and Wastewater projects across the country. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established Contractor. The successful candidate will join the Murphy Water engineering business within the Operations department reporting to the Operations & Maintenance Manager. As a Project Engineer, you will deliver mechanical engineering solutions for MEICA and Civil works on water and wastewater treatment plants. You will assist in the design, development, and implementation of operation and maintenance solutions for water and wastewater systems, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams. The role requires technical knowledge, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and support for ongoing system performance and reliability throughout the project lifecycle.
Role Duties
- Reporting to the Operations Manager
- O&M Support Leadership: Assist in the development and integration of operation and maintenance strategies for water and wastewater treatment systems. Support activities such as site assessments, system evaluations, performance optimisation, and planned maintenance planning.
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work collaboratively with civil, process, electrical, ICA, and H&S teams to support the integration of mechanical systems into the operational environment. Provide technical assistance and coordination across internal and external O&M teams.
- Procurement and Equipment Support: Support the selection and procurement of mechanical equipment—such as pumps, valves, tanks, and pipework—ensuring alignment with operational requirements and long-term maintainability. Verify that materials meet regulatory and performance standards.
- Subcontractor Coordination: Assist in coordinating subcontractors involved in maintenance and repair tasks, ensuring that work aligns with operational goals, schedules, and quality benchmarks.
- Site Monitoring and Performance Reviews: Conduct or support regular site inspections to monitor system performance, identify issues, and assist in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical challenges. Ensure ongoing compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Client and Stakeholder Support: Maintain effective communication with clients and stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of O&M activities. Provide timely technical input, operational updates, and recommendations to ensure performance objectives are achieved.
- Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Support the implementation and continuous improvement of HSE practices during operational activities. Help identify and address safety and environmental risks related to system operation and maintenance.
- O&M Reporting and Documentation: Assist in preparing detailed O&M plans, logs, and performance reports for internal and external stakeholders. Document system issues, corrective actions, and improvement opportunities.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in operational reviews and feed lessons learned into future maintenance strategies. Contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of mechanical systems.
- Team Development: Support knowledge-sharing and collaboration within the team. Contribute to a positive team environment by assisting peers and mentoring junior staff in operational best practices and maintenance principles.
- Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the company procedures observing proper health and safety.
- Be a punctual, motivated, and organised self-starter who is enthusiastic and conscientious about completing work on time and to a high standard.
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in Mechanical or chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of proven experience as a Project Engineer in the water and wastewater industry.
- Experience within the Water / Wastewater industry a distinct advantage
- Motivated, self-starter with excellent communications skill
- Ability to collaborate with multiple disciplines (civil, electrical, process, etc.) and provide technical and commercial guidance in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of resolving technical issues and managing project changes.
- In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards in mechanical design and construction, particularly in water and wastewater sectors.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
- Ability to engage with clients and stakeholders effectively, ensuring their needs are met throughout the project lifecycle.
- Full, clean driving licence
