Where we Work

Udemy is a global company headquartered in San Francisco, with additional U.S. offices in Denver and Austin, and international hubs in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, and Türkiye. This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

About your skills

  • You’re a 3rd or 4th year student, a recent graduate, or someone transitioning into product or content design from another field. You might be pursuing a degree in Human Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Product Design, Content Design, or a related discipline, or you may have developed your skills through practical experience, training programs, or self-directed learning.
  • You’re excited about designing thoughtful user experiences and curious about how great design scales across large products.
  • You’re curious about how design systems and shared foundations help teams build better products at scale.
  • You have an interest in areas such as visual design systems, content design or UX writing, accessibility, or design tooling.
  • You’re excited to experiment with and have experience with AI-assisted design workflows and emerging prototyping tools.

About this role

The Design Foundations team enables product teams at Udemy to design and build high-quality experiences faster. We create and evolve the systems, tools, and workflows that support design and development across the company.
Our work spans design systems, design tooling, content patterns, AI-assisted prototyping, and reusable UX frameworks. We partner closely with product teams to translate strong design craft into scalable foundations that improve consistency, accessibility, and speed across the product.
We are also exploring how AI can augment the design process, helping teams rapidly prototype ideas, generate UI and content explorations, and evolve modern design workflows.
  • The Udemy internship is a 12-week paid program for undergraduate or postgraduate students, running June through September.
  • As a Product Design Intern, you’ll work alongside designers, engineers, and product managers to design and improve experiences across Udemy’s platform. Depending on the project, you may contribute to product features, design system components, content patterns, or internal design tools used by teams across the company.
  • You’ll gain experience across the full design process, from discovery and exploration to iteration and implementation and see how your work contributes to real product experiences.
  • You’ll also help the team explore AI-leveraged design workflows, experimenting with tools that help designers and engineers rapidly prototype ideas, generate content and interface explorations, and test concepts earlier in the design process.

What you’ll be doing

  • Collaborate with designers, engineers, and product managers to explore and solve product and platform design problems
  • Contribute to design explorations, prototypes, and UI or content patterns used across Udemy products
  • Support the evolution of our design system and foundations, including components, patterns, and documentation
  • Experiment with AI-enabled design workflows, exploring how tools can accelerate prototyping, design exploration, and content generation
  • Participate in design critiques and reviews, incorporating feedback from teammates and stakeholders
  • Help validate design ideas through lightweight research, usability feedback, or internal testing
  • Document and communicate design decisions to support adoption across product teams

What you’ll have

  • Problem solving – You approach problems thoughtfully and can explore multiple possible solutions.
  • Design craft – Ability to create clear, thoughtful user experiences that address real user needs.
  • Visual or interaction design – Experience designing in tools such as Figma to create high-quality interface and interaction designs.
  • Communication – Ability to explain design decisions and collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, and designers.
  • Presentation – Comfortable sharing work and discussing ideas with peers and stakeholders.
  • AI-enabled design workflows – Interest in using AI tools in the design process, such as prototyping, content generation, or workflow automation.
  • Content design – Candidates with an interest or background in content design, UX writing, or structured content are especially encouraged to apply.
