We are currently seeking a skilled Basic Grade<\/b> Medical Scientist\-Microbiology<\/b> to lead  hospitals in<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> Tralee.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>

Maternity Cover \/ Specified Purpose Contract – 21 hrs\/week<\/b>

Responsibilities<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>
<\/div>

  • Perform routine and specialised microbiology laboratory tests on patient samples to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Prepare, examine, and analyse clinical specimens such as blood, urine, sputum, and swabs.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment in accordance with laboratory protocols.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Ensure accurate recording, interpretation, and reporting of laboratory results within agreed turnaround times.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Follow quality control and quality assurance procedures, including compliance with laboratory standards and accreditation requirements.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Adhere to infection prevention, health and safety, and laboratory policies at all times.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Participate in method validation, audits, and quality improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Collaborate with medical staff, laboratory colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams to support patient care.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Maintain laboratory documentation, records, and data management systems accurately.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Participate in continuous professional development (CPD), training, and competency assessments.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Assist in training students, interns, or new laboratory staff when required.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

    Requirements<\/h3>

  • A degree in Biomedical Science or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM) is required.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Registration with the Medical Scientists Register maintained by CORU is essential.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Applicants must provide evidence of ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Clinical experience as a Medical Scientist in Microbiology within a medical laboratory is required.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Knowledge of Joint Commission International (JCI) standards and experience with INAB accreditation to ISO 15189 would be advantageous.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • The role requires flexibility and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Candidates should demonstrate excellent time management, planning, and organisational abilities.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • A high level of responsibility, initiative, and professional accountability is expected.
    <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Proficiency in IT systems and applications is required.
