Coordinator of Ukrainian School Project 

 

 Overview 

The Ukrainian School in Kerry was founded in May 2023 in response to the needs of Ukrainian families and children living in the North, West, and East parts of County Kerry. 



The School operates on a three-tier system principle: 

  1. Educational - students learn the Ukrainian language, literature and history. 
  1. Cultural - students celebrate and learn about Ukrainian traditions and culture. 
  1. Well-being - students attend sport and art activities during school hours 



The School is supported by NEWKD and SICAP (Social Inclusion Community Activation Programme). 

 

Job Summary 

The Ukrainian School in Kerry is excited to announce that it is seeking a coordinator for the Ukrainian School in Kerry project
to support the existing Board of Directors and SICAP's integration team in delivering a high-quality personal 

experience for children and their families.  



The School Coordinator plays a central role in supporting the cultural and educational mission of the school. This position will have a dual  strategic
focus  
 



  1. To ensure the delivery of a quality service consistent with the principles and objectives of the school
  2. To conduct an ongoing review and evaluation of the school and produce and report at the end of the year which will provide recommendations on the optimum delivery model for tehthe future  The Coordinator works closely with the Board of Directors, staff, families, and external partners to maintain high standards and foster a vibrant cultural environment. 



Key responsibilities 

  • Promote the school’s ethos, values, and commitment to Ukrainian language, culture, and traditions.  
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the school, ensuring efficiency and alignment with strategic goals.  
  • Consult with parents, students, children and other relevant parties in developing the school  
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to propose organisational improvements, implement approved plans, and report on progress.  
  • Monitor and support the quality of educational activities and ensure they reflect the school’s cultural and curricular standards.  
  • Liaise with the SICAP Integration Team and the Board of Directors to provide regular updates on project progress.  
  • Oversee administrative functions, ensuring effective systems and processes are in place.  
  • Facilitate clear and consistent communication and conultation with current and prospective families.  
  • Coordinate the review and auditing of lesson plans and activities to ensure they are engaging and curriculum aligned 
  • Ensure the implementation of school policies and procedures, including health and safety.  
  • Act as the first point of contact for families and prospective students.  
  • Represent the school at external meetings, conferences, and community events.  
  • Monitor and manage the school’s social media presence and promotional activities.  
  • Support school staff through active engagement in school life and activities.  
  • Organise and coordinate occasional events and enrichment activities for children. 
  • Coordinate all volunteers and ensure that sufficient volunteers are available and vetted. 
  • Be the point of contact for concerns/complaints or issues that arise.  
  • Develop a written report outlining the school's operational model and recommendations to ensure the project's sustainability and provide high-quality educational experiences for children. 

 

Required qualification & experience 

  • Can evidence significant paid or unpaid experience in project management coordination 

Or 

  • Can demonstrate significant paid or unpaid experience in community development 

Or  

Can demonstrate significant paid or unpaid experience in coordinating operation of educational setting 

  • Recognised formal qualification in project management, community development, education or any related discipline 
  • Experience of working in an educational setting 
  • Can demonstrate
    significant experience in staff/
    volunteersvolunteers' supervision in paid or unpaid environment 

 

Essential skills, Knowledge and competencies 

  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Ability to coordinate social projects in the educational context or community  
  • Excellent report writing skills 
  • Ability to assess the educational value of the proposed lesson plans and activities 
  • Fluency
    in English 
     
  • Fluency in Ukrainian 
  • Explicit knowledge of issues facing migrant children and their families in Ireland 
  • Excellent decision-making skills 

 

Desirable skills, knowledge and competencies 

  • Educational background in Ukrainian literature or language 
  • Fluency in any other language 
  • Experience as a school Principal 
  • Knowledge of issues faced by forcibly displaced migrant children and their families 
  • Knowledge of issues faced by the Ukrainian community in Ireland 

 

Working Hours, Location and Renumeration 

  • Hours: 10 p/w - work includes Saturday work during school's operation 
  • Please not this role requires individuals to work every Saturday as part of their standard hours.
  • Location: Hybrid (In-person attendance during school hours ) 
  • Renumeration: Development Worker Scale.  
  • Fixed Term Contract until the end of Dec 2025
