This is role works in collaboration with the Biomethane Development Office (BDO) in Technological University of the Shannon, The BDO is a new initiative to support the development of the biomethane industry in the Tipperary Region. The person will work in collaboration with the BDO team, Tipperary County Council (TCC) and the Irish Bioeconomy Foundation (IBF)  to lead the development of sustainable solutions in energy management for the Tipperary Decarbonising Zone (DZ), the EU Just Transition Fund (JTF) area and wider region.

 

Role Overview:

The Energy Expert will work as part of TEA and in close collaboration with the BDO, Manage and the role will involve the support of the β€˜Biomethane for Carbon and Community Project’, with a specific focus on energy management in the DZ and the wider area.

 

This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and a passion for sustainability and the role of communities in climate action. The Energy Expert will collaborate with cross-functional teams in TEA, TUS, other biomethane stakeholder organisations, local communities and external partners to achieve energy and sustainability goals.

Maternity Cover from July 2025 to January 2026

 

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Consultation and Advisory:

  • Advise and support the BDO Manager on any constraints to biomethane and renewable energy development for example, grid capacity/connectivity and work with national agencies to positivity address any issues.
  • Report on and advise on the relevant planning and consenting processes around the development of a biomethane facility in the DZ and also the development of other related Biomethane and renewable energy supporting infrastructure in the region.
  • Advise and support the BDO Manager on collaborative and community investment options in relation to the development of a cooperative Biomethane development.
  • Support the biomethane for the Community project group in Technological University of the Shannon and TEA to integrate biomethane activity into the energy master plan for the Tipperary region.

Project Development:

    • Consider community investment/co-operative options in relation to the biomethane for Carbon and Community project in conjunction with relevant stakeholders
    • Develop detailed project plans, including sustainability plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, and timelines.
    • Coordinate with stakeholders, including technology providers, contractors, and government agencies, to ensure successful project execution.
    • Monitor project progress and provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting as needed.

    Education and Outreach:

      • Identify key target audiences, stakeholders, and partners for effective collaboration and engagement around renewable energy development.
      • Craft compelling messages, content, and campaigns to raise awareness about biomethane and associated renewable energy development.
      • Conduct workshops, seminars, and training sessions to educate stakeholders on the benefits and technical aspects of biomethane production.
      • Utilise various communication channels, including social media, websites, newsletters, and traditional media, to reach diverse audiences; Prepare and distribute informational materials, such as guides, case studies, and newsletters.

      Research and Innovation:

      • Keep up to date with legislative, technical and operational changes to biomethane production in collaboration with the industry and the national governance frameworks.

      Policy and Advocacy:

      • Collaborate with stakeholders in biomethane for Carbon and Community Project, TUS, government bodies, industry groups, and other stakeholders to advocate for supportive policies and incentives for biomethane projects.
      • Participate in relevant forums and contribute to policy discussions related to renewable energy and agriculture.

      Data Analysis and Reporting:

      • Collect and analyse data from biomethane projects to evaluate performance and identify areas for improvement.
      • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders highlighting progress, challenges, and opportunities.

       

      Qualifications and Experience:

      • Bachelor's degree in Climate Action, Environmental Engineering, or a related degree where sustainable development, sustainable energy, climate change, environmental management studies were undertaken.  A master's degree is preferred.
      • Solid understanding of climate science, adaptation and sustainability principles.
      • Experience in renewable energy, particularly in biomethane or biogas production. 
      • Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
      • Compelling communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences, explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences; ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
      • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
      • Familiarity with relevant energy regulations, codes, and standards.
      • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret energy data and recommend data-driven solutions.
      • Proficiency in energy modelling software, data analysis tools, and MS Office Suite.
      • Full, clean driving license and willingness to travel within Ireland.
