Leinster Rugby is seeking applications for the position of Physiotherapist Intern.

 

The role provides the Physiotherapist opportunity to observe and assist in the delivery of best practice sports physiotherapy services to the Senior and Academy Squads, in partnership with the Lead Physiotherapist, Senior Physiotherapists and Doctor(s). The Intern Physiotherapist will also support and assist the Physiotherapy Team in liaising with medical, fitness and coaching staff on all physiotherapy related issues within Squad.

JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENT

 

POSITION TITLE: Physiotherapist Intern, Leinster Rugby          

 

ROLE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:

 

The role provides the Physiotherapist opportunity to observe and assist in the delivery of best practice sports physiotherapy services to the Senior and Academy Squads, in partnership with the Lead Physiotherapist, Senior Physiotherapists, and Doctor(s). The Intern Physiotherapist will also support and assist the Physiotherapy Team in liaising with medical, fitness, and coaching staff on all physiotherapy related issues within Squad.

 

The purpose of the role is to assist in the treatment and management of players. It is also to assist with the daily management of the Physiotherapy department.

 

This position will be 30 hours per week. Specific hours and days to be confirmed weekly by the Lead Physiotherapist.

KEY QUALITIES:

 

Essential:

 

  • Chartered physiotherapist degree or equivalent
  • The ability to work well within a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills & relationship building skills
  • Highly organised & efficient
  • Capacity to develop strong program design skills  
  • Ability to use objective measures & make objective decisions
  • Knowledge of injury pathology and rehabilitation techniques
  • Excellent record keeping skills
  • Proficient computer skills and Excel skills

 

Desirable:

 

  • A post graduate qualification in sports and/or musculoskeletal physiotherapy
  • Ability to set goals, use objective measures & make objective decisions
  • Ability to plan (long & short term)

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • To assist in providing aspects of physiotherapy care to Leinster Squad
  • Ability to perform treatment and rehabilitation under the direction and supervision of a Senior/Academy Physiotherapist
  • Ensure the Physio room is organised to an acceptable level
  • Weekly match day preparation (organise equipment, Pack/Stock medical bag)
  • Ensure the recovery systems for players are organised daily – Game ready and Ice baths
  • Ensure that the injury tracking system is kept up to date
  • Liaise with the team regarding the assessment, progress and ongoing treatment of players
  • Training Day Pitch Coverage (Hydration, Medical/Emergency Bag Transport)
  • Assist the Senior and Academy Physiotherapists with the organisation of player testing
  • Be trained and updated in acute pitch side care, including spinal injury and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, in your capacity as a Physiotherapist
  • Keep up to date on recent research in sports physiotherapy and rugby related physiotherapy issues
  • Maintain and update your knowledge and practice of sports physiotherapy, to include participation in IRFU physiotherapy in-service meetings, Leinster in-services and outside lectures
  • Provide research articles for all the staff as directed by the Lead Physiotherapist
  • Undertake research as directed by the lead Physiotherapist and publish in a reputable peer reviewed journal
  • Carry out any other duties that may be assigned from time to time

  • Assist with the Academy and Lead Physiotherapist on generating reports
  • Prepare occasional presentations (case reports, journal or conference reviews)
  • Portray a professional image on behalf of Leinster Rugby
  • Maintaining effective relationships with various staff within Leinster and the IRFU
  • Carry out duties and responsibilities above to an effective and efficient standard
